Introduction
The history of carpets has always been one to be preserved. While the oldest rug in the world lies in a museum,
brands across the world continue to craft such pieces that lend your space a part of that history. The story of
Imperial Rugs began in the year 2012. For some, a carpet might just be a floor covering but for us, every rug crafted
holds a part of our heart. A rug is a lifeless article, but an Imperial rug is not just a product but a living accent
of human emotions, precision, and traditions.
The Value of Handmade Rugs
Anything and everything handmade takes a lot of time. A lifetime of practice of the art, looping every knot with
precision and a detailed study of designs, is all a part of the process. In this blog, we aim to not only make you
understand the complexity behind an Imperial hand knotted rug but also take you on a journey, making your next
purchase an experience.
The Rug-Making Journey
The journey begins with a demand and an idea, post execution in 4-5 steps, an Imperial hand made rug is born.
Step 1: Sourcing of Fibers
Based on the requirements, the first step is sourcing of the fiber. We at Imperial Rug are active contributors to
keeping the environment safe. Understanding the need of the hour, we use natural fibers, sourced most sustainably.
From the best quality of wool from New Zealand, to the one derived from our very own native land, from international
grade cotton to our very own home-manufactured recycled PET yarns, we have everything.
Step 2: Dyeing of Yarns
The selected yarns are set to the dyeing centers. Using traditional dyeing techniques accompanied by modern machines,
the yarns are dyed and sent to our looms to start the rug-making process.
Step 3: The Loom & Hand-Knotting
A hand-knotted carpet takes a lot of time to be crafted. Depending upon the number of knots, a rug can take up to a
year. A hand-knotted rug from Imperial can have up to 300 knots per square inch. Some looms are in our factory, while
most of our hand-knotted rugs are produced at the scattered looms in rural areas.
The home of the weaver is where the spirit is added to our rugs. The art of hand-knotting that has been in the weaver
family for generations is put to use. The technique itself adds to the legacy. Staying with the weaver’s family for so
long, the carpet bears witness to their story. It eventually becomes a part of their lives. With each knot tied, you
will find a story embraced within. The result, the carpet that you roll out in your space, has affection and the echo
of the conversations it was once a part of.
Step 4: Finishing Touches
From the loom, the carpet is sent to the factory for finishing. The entire canvas goes through a detailed inspection
process, a washing round, and the final edge binding. At this stage, the carpet embraces its final identity. From our
home to yours, the carpet that once witnessed our stories now lies in your home.
A Carpet with a Soul
As long as this rug stays with you, it will be part of your family’s story. As time passes, it will stand out as an
heirloom worthy piece, passed down through generations, just like the art of hand-making.
An Heirloom for Generations
Every Imperial Rug carries forward not just design and tradition, but emotions, conversations, and memories—making it
a true heirloom that can be cherished for years to come.
